Celtic Woman in Concert: Getting the Best Seat in the House.

A How-to Guide for CW Fans

The Boston Globe featured an informative article on January 14, written by Bruce Mohl, entitled, Want tickets to a show? You'd better plan ahead . It stated that all the best seats are pre-sold even before being offered to the public at the box office.

According to the Boston Globe article, "Pre-sales are becoming standard practice in the entertainment business, an inexpensive but effective way to reach and reward core fans. But the growing use of these advance sales means anyone not plugged in to the presale network runs the risk of being left out in the cold at the box office."

The number of CW fans vying for concert tickets seems to be growing exponentially. As a result, there are too many fans and too few tickets.

"There's a huge underground following, particularly in places like Boston," said a spokeswoman for Celtic Woman.

So how do you get the best seats in the house?
"Through PBS and detective work! "according to CW fan Maureen Holden, who has already purchased a multiple number of tickets for this coming spring tour. Fourteen tickets and counting, just for the NYC March show alone.

Last year, Maureen attended several Celtic Woman concerts. For her, finding tickets with prime seating is a must.

To obtain tickets, Maureen called the PBS stations. "You can't buy the tickets unless you make a pledge. But you aren't really buying the tickets you are making a pledge and they are giving you the tickets." A pledge of $250.00 per pair will get you better seat through PBS. So when do you call your local PBS stations?
As soon as you can! Seats are assigned in order of pledges received. Although you won't receive the tickets until two weeks before the concert, you can be sure that you will have better seats compared to buying tickets at the box office.

Jan Harper, a long-time fan who has seen Celtic Woman in 3 different countries (Ireland, Canada, and the U.S.), offers the following advice on purchasing through Ticketmaster:

First if you are not an experienced ticket buyer, check on the forum (www.celticwomanforum.com ) for a venue you might want to attend and see if anyone on the forum has already done research. Go to the website for the venue and look at the seating chart.
If you are in love with David Downes, don't buy seats to the side where you may not be able to even see the piano!
Once you get your inquiry set up, I like Ticketmaster for simple online purchasing. If you know the place you are going and what is acceptable to you, then you can get good seats and know the price, fees, and delivery time within minutes. If you came for the music you are going to get an earful in nearly any seat.
I would NOT recommend blind purchasing off Ticketmaster for people who don't know CW concert production style, anything about the theater. Research is key.
If you are going to hear and see Méav sing live, there is no amount of money too great or any seat that isn't a treasure if you get to sit in it.

For many fans, it takes months of planning, researching, and corresponding with ticket brokers to get the perfect seat. But where is the best seat?

Web editor's note: "When I saw my first Celtic Woman show last Spring 2006, just being in the concert hall and listening to the beautiful music of Celtic Woman was definitely a wonderful experience. No matter where I was seated, I knew anywhere would have been perfect!"
