'There's a dream that will not sleep, a burning hope that will not die'
That's how I felt when I heard that Celtic Woman would come to visit the Netherlands.
Unfortunately, this will be postponed, but I'm getting ahead of myself. I think that first I should tell you HOW I came to love these girls so much.
It was December 23rd, 2006. My birthday. Several relatives and friends had already stopped by, and the next guests who arrived were my grandfather and my aunt. My twin sister had apparently put the CW Helix DVD on her list, because she knew that they sang 'You Raise Me Up', and she liked Westlife's version of it. And yes, when she unwrapped her gift, it was the DVD.
At first I was a bit surprised, seeing that my sister has a tiny obsession with rock music. But when the DVD played that evening, I caught a glimpse of a blonde woman in a gorgeous green and blue dress. I didn't get a very good chance to see her that night, because there were some friends over. But the next morning my world suddenly became bright and shiny: I saw Méav perform Sí Do Mhaimeo í.
That's how simple it was, really. I was améaved at how easy that lady could sing. My sister and I both fell in love, I guess. Their voices were unique, and the songs so well-chosen. We couldn't possibly dislike any one of them. But for me it was Méav, and for my sister Órla, who captured our hearts.
A few weeks later, bouncing up and down behind the computer, my sis called me and yelled: I FOUND CW CLIPS ON YOUTUBE!!! I bounced with her as we first saw At the Céili. We then immediately watched it four more times. The day after that we raced to the DVD shops and kept searching until we found ANJ.
WOW.
That's all that came to mind as we watched CW:A New Journey. Totally "améaved," all over again. This time it was Last Rose of Summer that got me pretty bad. I'll never forget that utterly sad look on Méav's face. Nor the smile as she walked off stage at the end of the concert. Or the 200-watt smile after Sing Out. Or Lisa during Caledonia, Órla when she perfomed Carrickfergus, and Chloë singing The Prayer. Máiréad during The Pacific Slope. Hayley in Scarborough Fair.
I'm addicted now, and I don't care one bit! That's how I came to love Celtic Woman. Because my sister liked the Westlife version of You Raise Me Up. So I'd have to thank my sister, and Westlife of course. If they hadn't made that song, my sister would've just placed the DVD back. That's just a too scary thought!
